Drawing from Ben Rayner’s tape collection, Joe Clark asked What’s missing from iTunes Music Store Canada? so I figured I’d see if the US version has any better selection.

Missing from the US and Canadian stores:

On the American site, but not Canadian:

More albums on the American store than the Canadian store

Same number of albums on both stores:

Of course, I’ve only even heard of 11 of those acts, so I’m not really sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that I can’t purchase so many of them on iTunes.

Which of course brings me to a larger point: I only get what Joe Clark is up to about 20% of the time, but his writing seems so "in the know" that I keep reading, hoping that I’ll catch on. In the post that started this discussion, he clearly has something against Ben Rayner (hence the quotes around music critic), but I have no idea why, from reading the Joe’s page. It can’t be the selection of bands, because I know for a fact that Joe likes some of them. I’m certainly not in any position to tell him what to put on his page, but it would certainly be helpful if there were a bit more explanation and a bit less, "are you cool enough to get my allusions."

* Not having thought much about her since buying two of her CDs in college (on the recommendation of a very good friend, who, in retrospect, may have been coming on to me) and listening to them a few dozen times each year, I was amazed to find out that Meryn has a livejournal. Also of note, she recently realized that she’s a transsexual and started her transition this past summer. Good luck, Meryn!
